Vol. VII. October, 2008 Issue 8.
Captains Column
I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Fort Harrison program on September 27th and 28th. We had a good turn out. Those present for one or both days included Jack Alexander, Bob Baird, Wes Catlett, Travis Clements, Eldridge Firth, David Gammon, Ryan Hughes, Nate Pate, Tom Stafford and Myself.
This was a very laid back program. We did three demos for the public on Saturday and two on Sunday. Confederate artillery did demonstrations just before each of ours. There was a musical program planned for Saturday night. The event was very similar to Cold Harbor just on a smaller scale. I think it has a lot of potential should we decide to keep it on our schedule.
We have several things coming up in the next few weeks. You may or may not get this newsletter in time to confirm it but there is a work weekend scheduled for October 11th and 12th at the fort. You should have already been contacted by email. Please plan to help out. Let your 1st Sergeant know.
We have Cedar Creek coming up on October 18th and 19th. This is usually a pretty good reenactment. The last few years the weather has been very nice, though a little chilly at night so bring your blankets. Meals will be out of your Haversacks or the vendors at the event.
Two weeks later, we will participate in the Battle of Bethesda Church in Walkerton, Va. This will be a first time event for F Company but we have heard good things about it. This Event is November 1st and 2nd. Hopefully there will be good weather but this time of year be prepared for anything. Directions to Cedar Creek and Walkerton will be included later in the newsletter.
Looking farther down the road, we have the Civil War Show and the Gettysburg parade coming up later in November. They are actually both on the same weekend, November, 22nd and 23rd. The show gets first priority so if we do not have enough people to do both, we will attend the show. We need people to do both the tables. On a related note, we are thinking about doing the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade. More information on that to come.
That is all for now, see you at the fort and/or Cedar Creek!
Your Obedient,
Captain Turley
