Vol. VII. November, 2008 Issue 9.
Captains Column
We just got back from the Walkerton/Locust Grove reenactment on the weekend of November 1st and 2nd. I want to thank everyone who attended. That includes Tom Stafford, David Gammon, Ryan Hughes, Wes Catlett, Shane Kisner, and Bill Ward. It was a relatively small event but the weather was great and I think everyone who attended had a good time. The event has a lot of potential with lots of room for growth.
We are now down to the remaining two events of the year. They are the Civil War show at RIR and the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade.
The Civil War show is Saturday and Sunday, November 22nd and 23rd. We are looking for people to man the tables on both days. Saturdays hours are 9am to 5pm and Sundays are 9am to 2pm. If you would like to help out with a 4 to 5 hour shift, morning or afternoon, either day that would be great. Please let us know.
The last F Company event of the year will be the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 7th. I think the parade kicks off at 3pm and F Company will be there. We do parades very well. The Lieutenant has more information on the parade elsewhere in the newsletter. Please plan to be there. It would be a nice way to close out the reenacting season.
Thats all for now. I will see you either at the Civil War Show or the Parade or maybe both.
Your Obedient Servant,
Captain Turley
PS If you havent thought about it, the Holidays are fast approaching. If I dont see you beforehand, have a Happy Thanksgiving!
1st Lieutenants Report
Greetings gentlemen of F Company,
I would like to thank everyone for their efforts this year. It has been a tough year for everyone, so we have signed up for an easy event to close out the reenacting season. The Company has registered to participate in the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade. There are several Reenactment Groups and S.C.V. groups that are involved with this event, and it will be nice to march in a dress parade formation again. This Event is very well received by the public. The Parade starts at 3pm on December 7th at Hanover Green Drive, which is right beside the Post Office in Old Mechanicsville. It is not too late to join in, so if you are interested just contact the 1st Sgt.
Respectfully
1st LT J. Thomas Stafford
1st Sergeants Report
Gentlemen,
We have the show coming up on November 22nd and 23rd at the Richmond Raceway Complex. Saturday is from 9 to 5 and Sunday is from 9 to 2. We still need all the help we can get, especially on Sunday. Please let me know if you can help out.
We also have the parade on December 7th in Mechanicsville at 3 P.M. Please see Lt. Stafford's article in this newsletter for details, meeting time and location and other information. Remember, for a parade we will be wearing kepis only (NO SLOUCH HATS). We also will not be wearing haversacks. Shoes should be cleaned and brass shined.
Please try to help out with one or both events as these are our last major things for the season. Please let me know if you plan to be at either event as we have to plan ahead for admission to the show and organize our parade plans.
Thank You,
1st Sgt. Gammon
The Poets Corner
The correct answer from the last question to identify the unknown author, William Shakespeare, was submitted by 1st Sergeant, David Gammon. Who said he cant read. It wasn't me 1st Sarge! The PRIZE: dinner on the company at the next muster! We all know he likes to eat. It wasn't me that said that, 1st Sarge! I am only repeating what I have been told.
Continuing the effort to broaden everyone's horizons, even you Bob:
NEVER GIVE UP
Never give up! There are chances and changes
Helping the hopeful a hundred to one,
And through the chaos high wisdom arranges
Every success, ----if you'll hope on:
Never give up! For the wisest is boldest,
Knowing that Providence mingles the cup,
And of all maxims the best, as the oldest,
Is the true watchword of Never give up.
Wow, look at those words, if you cant learn from those, I am not sure you can learn at all!
This months mystery poet wrote this:
His spirit was the home
Of aspiration high!
A temple, whose huge dome
Was hidden in the sky.
Remember, the first person to email or contact Jack Alexander with the correct answer will receive a prize, to be determined, of course.
