Vol. V. November 2006 Issue 10.

1st Lieutenants Report

I know that the 1st sergeant has already reported on the living history event at the new American Civil War Center at Tredegar but I would like to make a few comments and thank everyone that turned out. That included Tom Stafford, matt Gammon, David Gammon, Bill Ward, and myself. Former F Company member Glenn Courson was also there. The Center is a very impressive facility and it appears that there is an attempt to tell all sides of the story. We were please to run into another former F company member, Jimmy Price. He is employed there.

Due to the weather conditions, all the activities that could be were moved inside. F Company did one demo in the early afternoon. The Center’s director, Mr. Scher, was very pleased with our program and thanked us for coming. We did receive a donation from the Center and we will probably work with them in the future.

Now turning to Cedar Creek…. Thanks go to those who attended. They included Mike Vice, Ryan Hughes, Matt Gammon, David Gammon, Eldridge Firth, Tom Stafford and myself.

The weather was nice during the day but it did get cold Saturday night, our numbers were small but we had a good time. I have learned that if you don’t take this too seriously, the hobby can actually be what it is intended to be --- fun and enjoyable and even humorous. It is nice just to put on the uniform and take a break from the so-called real world from time to time. The scenery was beautiful and the camaraderie was unsurpassed. Saturday night tge sky was filled with so many stars that they could not be counted. Sunday morning’s sunrise was gorgeous. How can some people say there is no God?

I do want to make a comment on Sunday’s battle. I had told the men that I would stay for the duration of the battle as long as we had anyone standing. I did not mean to break that promise. I was just that when I saw an opportunity to take a hit when the Yanks fired a volley I fell back with the intent of taking the whole unit with me. I only succeeded in taking down about half. Next time I will try to make my intentions known.

Next up is Fort Branch. As usual we will be staying at the Perry’s. This is always a good time. If you are signed up fro this, please attend. This may be the last time we do Fort Branch so it may be your last chance to enjoy the hospitality of the Perry’s and the last reenactment of the year. Hope to see you there.

We still hope to be at the Civil War show at the old Fairgrounds on the weekend of November 18th and 19th. No details yet but we will let you know. Please try to keep yourself available for at least one of those two days.

That’s all for now. See you at Fort Branch.

Respectfully Submitted,

1st Sergeant’s Report

Gentlemen,

We have concluded another reenactment at Cedar Creek. I would like to thank all the members who were able to attend .We missed y'all that were unable to make it. The weather was pleasant during the day but a little chilly at night. The battles were intense and lively. The Saturday battle was a close encounter and a bit of a surprise. The High Command miss calculated a bit and instructed us right up to the federals within about 20 yards. Our General was not very pleased with the orders that he had been given that had placed us in a really bad situation. But, he recovered quickly and got us out of it.

The Sunday battle went well and we gave the federals more than they had bargained for. Our march did cover quite a bit of ground before we engaged the federals. We still managed to give a good showing, even though our unit was decimated after our first heavy firing engagement.

Don't forget that Fort Branch is November 4th and 5th. The directions to the fort are further down in the Newsletter. If you have signed up, do try and attend if at all possible. I would like to see you in the field. This event is our last reenactment for this year and I hope to see y'all out there.

Remember our brave men and women in the military. May GOD bless and protect them and their families . GOD BLESS OUR GREAT COUNTRY!!!

Respectfully,

                    1st Sgt Stafford

Directions to Fort Branch

South of Petersburg 295 joins back into 95 and you will be 47 miles from the NC/VA line.  You will be less than an hour away once you cross into NC.  Once in NC go approximately 9 miles and take the NC 125 exit.  I believe it is exit 171.  Take NC 125 South towards Halifax.  Near Halifax, NC 125 will join NC 903.  Continue on NC 125/903 South to Scotland Neck.  In Scotland Neck, stay on NC 903 towards Hamilton.  Go approximately 1 mile past Hamilton on NC 903 and turn left on the Fort Branch Road.  There will be an old house to the right and an old gas station on the left.  Look for the CW sign and/or banner.  The fort will be 2 miles on the left.
