Vol. IX. March, 2010 Issue 2.
Captains Column
I would like to thank everyone who attended the Annual Meeting for F Company. It was held at the Ashland Church of God on Saturday February 20th, 2010. Thanks to 1st Sergeant Gammon for securing the meeting place for us. Also special thanks to those who came in from out of town. Many times I think they put some of us locals to shame.
The following is some of what came out of the meeting.
The leadership of F Company will remain the same. Therefore, the makeup of the Executive Committee will not change.
The schedule for the year was voted on by those in attendance. The results will be revealed at the Camp of Instruction.
Mr. Alexander has acquired several militia uniforms via donations from former members. We should be able to outfit several members in this great looking impression when the need arises.
The 150th anniversary of the war was discussed and what that may mean for independent companies like us. Our relationship with Longstreets Corp and possible membership therein was considered as well as uniform/impression for the upcoming early war events. More information on these topics will be forthcoming.
It was good to meet new member Brett Weidman from Pennsylvania. He joined back in November but this was our first chance to actually meet him. While he was in town he was going to get measured for his uniform.
We had two more recruits join us at the meeting. One was Matthew Guillen of Mechanicsville. He was our flag bearer at the Christmas Parade back in December. Welcome to F Company, Matthew. The second recruit was actually a former member who decided to rejoin our ranks and that is Chet Parzych. Welcome back, Chet. It is great to have you back.
Again, thanks to all who attended and all who had a part in making the meeting a success. Thanks to the Executive Committee and other company advisors for their extra time and effort.
Coming up during the month of March is the Camp of Instruction and a fort work day. The fort work day is first and is scheduled for Saturday, March 6, weather and ground conditions permitting. Keep checking your email box for any changes.
The Camp of Instruction is scheduled for March 19th 21st. This is probably the most important event of the year for F Company. It is basic training for the privates and refresher training for the officers. It is also a good time to get reacquainted with each other, enjoy company camaraderie, and just get away for the weekend. Please make every effort to be there.
There will probably be some filming going on during the weekend. We have been wanting to make a recruiting video for a long time and we may finally get it accomplished. See you at the workday and then at camp.
Respectfully Submitted,
Captain Turley
1st Sergeants Report
Gentlemen,
First and foremost, I want to remind everyone that I need your event sheets by March 5th or you can give them to me in person on March 6th if you are attending the fort work day. If you have turned them in, thank you. Dues and reimbursements for missed events must also be in to Jack by March 15th to remain in good standing with the Company. Dues are $45.00 again this year.
We are having a work day at the fort on March 6th to prepare the fort for the Camp of Instruction. Please arrive by 9:00 A.M. and bring work gloves if you have them. Directions will follow in the newsletter.
Camp of Instruction will be Friday, March 19th through Sunday, March 21st at the fort. Please arrive on Friday evening if possible. If you are coming on Saturday morning, you need to be in camp by 6:30 A.M.. The company will be cooking breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings and supper on Saturday evening. The cost of these meals will be divided among the members and it usually runs about 8 to 10 dollars per man. We will try to keep it in this range, but offer no guarantees. All other food for the weekend will be your responsibility. For those arriving on Friday, there will be a group of people going into town for supper which is probably going to be a fund raising spaghetti dinner at a local Church. Please bring about 20 blank rounds for firing practice on Sunday. There will also be a full equipment layout and inspection on Sunday as well.
Remember, you may bring sleeping bags and other comforts from home to keep you warm. Do try to keep any modern items tucked away in your tent so as not to modernize anyones photographs. This is the only event that modern comforts are allowed. I do hope that everyone will make every effort possible to be at the Camp of Instruction. We may have a film person and or crew there to film some footage for a training/recruiting video so you wouldn't want to miss out on being in it.
Respectfully,
1st Sgt. Gammon
