Vol. VIII. March, 2009 Issue 2

Captain’s Column

I would like to thank everyone who was present at F Company’s Annual Meeting on the 21st of February. It was well attended and our work was accomplished in a timely and productive manner. Some results of the meeting: The leadership of F Company will remain the same for 2009. Mike Vice has stepped forward and assumed the Quartermaster duties. We appreciate his willingness to do so.

We do have a new member. His name is Neil Farver. Neal is currently on active duty stationed in Northern Virginia. He comes to us from Michigan but does have Tennessee roots and does have some reenactor experience. Hopefully, Neil will be able to serve with F Company for the foreseeable future, but that will depend on how long he is stationed in the Northern Virginia area. Please help me welcome Neil to the unit.

Coming up at the end of the month is our Camp of Instruction at Fort Harvie. But even before that we do have a work day scheduled at the fort. This is Saturday, March 14th and this is to help get the fort ready for the COI. Please plan to be there and do your part. We need everyone’s support in this project.

The Camp of Instruction will be the weekend of March 27th – 29th. A schedule for the COI is included in this newsletter. Please try to arrive before dark on Friday night so that you can get settled. If you can not make it on Friday you need to be in camp by 6:45 Saturday morning. We have a full schedule for the weekend so be on time. Note also that we have a full uniform and equipment inspection. This is to let you know what you have that meets company specifications and what you still need to get so bring everything you have.

I think that is it for now. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your Member at Large, Ryan Hughes, or anyone on the Executive Committee including myself. I will see you all at the fort work day and then the COI.

Your Obedient Servant,

Captain Turley

1st Sergeant’s Report

It was good to see everyone at the annual meeting. I hope anyone who couldn't make it can make it to the C.O.I.. We have a work day on the 14th of March to ready the fort for camp. If you signed up, please try to arrive by 8:30 A.M.. The task list has been put together according to your responses and one no-show will throw the whole thing out of kilter. Bring your gloves and any other tools you may think would be helpful like rakes, shovels, limb loppers, hatchets or axes.

The C.O.I. will be March 27th - 29th at the fort. If you can, please arrive on Friday; if not, please be in camp by 6:45 A.M. on Saturday morning. We will have an opportunity to have dinner in town if you should choose to. The restaurant will be opening just for us, so I will need a headcount to give the owners an idea of what they are up against. Please let me know if you will be attending or if you will be staying in camp. We will be cooking as a company for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and for dinner on Saturday evening. We split up the cost of the rations, so please bring some singles (dollar bills) to pay for the food. Lunches on both days will be from your haversacks, so bring your own rations for this. You will also need to bring 25 blank rounds and some caps for Sunday's festivities. Be prepared for a full equipment layout and inspection also. We will be doing this on Sunday morning to avoid setting up and breaking down and setting up again. Keep in mind you may bring a sleeping bag for the C.O.I..

If you have paid your dues already, Thank you if not, Jack needs them by March 15th. I also need your event sheets before camp as we have early registration for two events.

Remember, I need to know if you will be having dinner in town on Friday night.

Your Obedient Servant,

1st Sgt. Gammon

Quartermaster Returns

This is the first of the QM Returns in the Regimental Dispatch which will periodically appear to provide continuing information on the procurement supply operations of F Company. I was appointed Quartermaster at the F Co. Annual Membership meeting (21 Feb 09) in addition to my other duties as Chairman, Uniform Committee. My primary function will be to supply and house the co. inventory of accoutrements and equipage for supply to the membership. Please note that uniform wool and buttons will continue to be held in Richmond by the Co. Cmdr., however, all other inventory items have been taken over by me, and these items will be held at my home location in Gettysburg, PA. Note the following updated information for procurement:

Uniform Pricing and Production- On 19 Feb I confirmed w/Finney Hanes, Richmond Depot (our uniform source) the pricing of our basic F Co. uniform, i.e., jacket or blouse $200.00 and trousers or pants $115.00. This pricing is based on the Richmond Depot providing liner cloth, thread, and labor for the uniform. It will still be your responsibility to purchase the necessary wool and buttons from the Co. Cmdr. and then provide those items to the Richmond Depot prior to them proceeding w/sewing of your uniform items.

Co. Inventory to COI- I will be providing a number of items for soldier purchase at the COI (27-29 Mar 09) so if there is something that you are specifically in need of then you need to communicate that need to me ASAP! Assess your needs in the next two weeks and let me know what you want and it will be at the COI. If you don’t contact me then your order maybe delayed!

Possible Inventory Source Items- If you have an item which you think should be added to the F Co. inventory then by all means communicate w/me as to source, price, etc. and I will certainly look into the possible procurement of that item.

Upcoming Specials- At the COI, an excellent, authentic Federal Enlisted Foot Greatcoat, size 42-44 will be featured at only $200.00! With such greatcoats selling for $375-425.00 then this is a bargain not to be passed up! However, this special is only good at the COI! Additionally, I’m running a special on cotton socks and drawers, w/socks being reduced from $8.00 per pair to $7.00, and underwear being cut from $15.00 to $12.00 per pair, but these specials are only good for the COI, so you’d better show up!

Your Obedient Servant,

Quartermaster Vice
