Vol. VIII. February, 2009 Issue 1

Captain’s Column

Gentlemen,

Well, it is almost that time. The 2009 reenactment season is upon us. In fact depending on when you get this newsletter it may have already started. We will be at the Civil War Show at the Showplace in Mechanicsville the weekend of February 7th & 8th. We often do a show to start off the year.

That brings us to our annual business meeting. It will be held Saturday, February 21st, here in Richmond in the fellowship hall of Clover Hill Baptist Church. This is the same location as last year. The address is 3100 Courthouse Road Richmond Virginia, 23236. Directions are included in this newsletter. The meeting is scheduled from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Items will be available for purchase from the company inventory. We will go to Pizza Hut after the meeting.

There will be a special report on Fort Harvie, its progress and suggestions on how to facilitate its on going restoration and preservation. The 2009 schedule will be discussed and as always, elections will be held. Please make plans to be there. See you soon.

Your Obedient Servant,

Captain Turley

1st Sergeant’s Report

Gentlemen,

Our 2009 season is almost upon us. We will be having our annual meeting on February 21st at Clover Hill Baptist Church. It's the same place as last year's meeting. The meeting will be from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. and we will be going out for a late lunch or early dinner afterwards. If you have any ideas for events or muster opportunities, please be prepared to bring them up at the meeting. I would also encourage you to make any necessary purchases from our inventory at the meeting as it is a lot easier than trying to do it at the C.O.I.. I would also ask anyone that has extra gear that they wouldn't mind lending out to please bring it with you to the meeting. We have a guest coming to the meeting who is considering joining our unit and he will need to borrow some things for the C.O.I. should he decide to join. His name is Neil Farver and he is coming from Northern Virginia. He is currently serving our Country and is very excited about meeting us and getting back into reenacting.

We will also be having a work/cleanup day at the fort on Saturday March 14th. This is necessary to ready the fort for camp. We have small undergrowth to clean out and brush to remove from the trenches. We have firewood to cut up and stack in the fort. I would greatly appreciate any help you could offer. Please contact Nate Pate or myself if you can help so we can plan the tasks according to our available manpower.

We are considering two weekends for the C.O.I... Either the last weekend of March or the first weekend of April is what is being considered. If you have issues with either date, please speak now or forever hold your peace. The decision will probably be made before the meeting so don't wait until then to say.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting and at the C.O.I..

Thank You,

1st Sgt. Gammon
