Vol. VIII.
July/August, 2009 Issue 6
Captains
Column
I hope everyone is enjoying
their summer and the relatively mild temperatures we have been having. At least there has
not been a lot of the usual oppressive heat and humidity.
Just to review our last event, It was a living history program at Gaines Mill
the weekend of June 27th & 28th. We were there with the 3rd
VA Infantry under the command of Captain Chris Stevans. We did three demos each day.
Captain Stevans and I took turns narrating the demos and commanding the company. With both
the 21st and 3rd there, we had a decent size unit. The 3rd
uses Gilliams just as we do. It was nice to fall in with a unit that does just about
every thing the same as we do. We were a good fit for each other so much so that the 3rd
invited us to their living history program at
The weather was unusually mild for this time of year. Park Ranger Bob Krick gave an
excellent tour of the battlefield Saturday night. It was a very nice, laid-back event and
I think everyone had a good time. F Company members that attended included Bob Baird, Wes
Catlett, Eldridge Firth, David Gammon, Matt Gammon, and Bill Ward.
We have nothing scheduled for July and the muster for early August has been
canceled because of Mr. Vices situation. We are working on trying to come up with an
alternative but as of this writing have not finalized anything. You will be notified via
your e-mail if and when we do. And let me just say that just because F company is not
doing anything any particular weekend doesnt mean that you cant do something
on your own, independent of the unit. I do several presentations for the museum of the
confederacy during the summer months and I thoroughly enjoy them. So look and see what
else may be out there that you may be interested in doing (as long as it doesnt take
you away from a scheduled F Company activity). Broaden your horizons.
We had planned a grave stone dedication for Saturday, August 29th, that
was going to be in conjunction with the 15th VA, however, that has been
postponed until October. Further details are pending.
The next definite items on the schedule are the fort work day on September 12th
and the living history program at
Please keep the membership of F Company in your thoughts and prayers. Many have had
various health problems and / or personal and martial problems. Lets support each
other in whatever way we can.
The summer is flying by. I hope everyone has been or will be able to take some time
off in the form of vacation and get some rest. I know times are hard especially now, but
even so everyone needs a respite from the grind and burdens of everyday life.
Thats it for now. Hope to see everyone soon. Take care.
Respectfully submitted,
Captain Turley

Sergeants Report
This just hasn't been my summer.
I am now out of commission with a fractured spur on my elbow. Fresh off of a kidney stone,
now my arm is in a sling. I hope yall are slow readers because I'm having to type
with one hand and its powerful slow going.
We are still trying to finalize some sort of muster for August. You will be alerted
when we do. We have
I also have to get registration in for Cedar Creek in a few days. So far I have

I

Please remember that any help no matter how small is greatly appreciated. If you are
planning to attend the September 12th work day please bring your own lunch,
snacks, and drinks. If you have gloves please bring them. I will be arriving at the fort
